Roots love it. They grow around the little vermiculite particles and just suck in whatever moisture they need, when they need it. But because vermiculite takes a long time to dry out, moisture is always there for the plant, enabling it to grow faster and healthier, reducing the risk of drying out. I'd put it on par with perlite for \u003cstrong\u003ewater-sensitive plants\u003c\/strong\u003e (like succulents or cacti). It \u003cstrong\u003edoesn't retain or hold as much water\u003c\/strong\u003e as vermiculite. You can either soak for \u003cstrong\u003e48 hours \/ 2 days\u003c\/strong\u003e, then pot up, or dump out the water from the first soak, and soak in fresh water again for another 24 hours (I prefer the double-soak or triple-soak method below). \u003cstrong\u003ePro tip\u003c\/strong\u003e: You can prep Leca in advance. If you won't use it all right away, just store the rest somewhere cool and dry until needed, and give it a 24 hour soak again before use later. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eSTEP 3: NUTRIENT SOAK (OPTIONAL)\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA 3rd soak is optional (so is the 2nd soak really), but for valuable plants, I recommend the triple-soak method. Some plants go through transplant shock, and may lose some roots before they adjust, called 'root melt'.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePlant families that tend to do great in Leca include: Monstera, Sansevieria, ZZ Plants, Alocasia, Spider Plants, Synognium and Begonia.
