Egmont Double Vent Propagation Grow House
More pennies for plants
Egmont lives in a world of big boys. A lot of what they supply is for nurseries and growers, so they really know their stuff, but they also have really good prices for us indoor plant hobbyists. What's not to love about products that mean we can save more pennies for buying plants?
Prop and grow
With an Egmont Propagator at home, you can get your Mother Nature vibes going, get chopping and propping, and create more plants for free. So handy for getting cuttings started, to nurture water-rooted cuttings as they transition from water to soil, germinate and grow seedlings, and look after the the long list of humidity and heat-loving babies until they are ready to graduate to shelf life.
Fits 15 mini nursery pots
Egmont calls this their 'Mini' Propagator, but compared to the popular Elho Grow Houses (they have theirs in small or medium), in our world of indoor plants, we'd definitely call it a medium, maybe even borderline large.
This guy measures 38cms long x 24cms wide x 18cm tall. The base by itself is 6cms tall and the cover is just shy of 12cms high, giving your babies plenty of room to get big while still staying protected.
This size fits an impressive 15 mini nursery pots (based on the Crew Mini Propagation Pots which each measure 7cm x 7.5cms - available separately in black or white). That's a lot of babies to nurture all at once.
This is the double-vent model, with the two vents able to be adjusted separately. They simply slide for allowing air in to circulate, but still keep warmth and humidity nice and high. In winter this chap is superb coupled with the Egmont Heat Pad for keeping cuttings, baby plants and seedlings warm, humid, healthy and happy.
Reusable over and over
Plastic fantastic. Reusable over and over and over. The Egmont Propagator is made of thick enough plastic to last, but not so thick the price goes bananas. The base is a dark emerald green, and the top is clear, with the double-vents in green to match the base.
The base has 3 moulded ridges to funnel excess water away from precious roots, which also act as 'feet' to lift the house up slightly. Great on a heat mat to keep air flow under the house. There's no drainage (it's made to put nursery pots or seed trays in to as they have the drainage.
These are not as well moulded or as thick plastic as the Elho grow houses. The closest size match is the Elho Medium Grow House - which is around $50 - so the price for the Egmont Propagator does reflect the quality. Although it's not a perfectly moulded piece of art, and 2 pieces not 3 like the Elho, it's certainly not a single-use, throw-away either. Think practical and value for money instead.
Tips from my (mostly successful), propagation:
I always give fresh cuttings a dip in rooting hormone. It's hard enough getting the guts up to chop off a growth tip, so no way I'm just crossing my fingers that it will root and leaving it to chance. I use Clonex at the moment, which is a gel formula, but IBAdex is a good option too if you have it.
If you really want to get growth humming, a quick soak in Groconut does wonders. Groconut is 100% natural. It's a powder concentrate that you mix with water, made from baby coconuts, naturally rich in plant growth hormones.
That's pretty much all I do to prep mine for either water or substrate / soil rooting. Then every time I water, I add a little Foliage Pro. That's a complete and balanced plant fertiliser focused on the vegetative growth stage (that's leaves and stems). I use just 1ml per 1.5 litres but there's more about how to use every product on the product pages (linked to each product name above).
Badda bing, badda bam. New growth galore!

"Super impressed with this business. Something that is lost nowadays, is customer service. This however is not the case with Anna from “Love that Leaf”. Very happy with my purchase, very happy with the product information provided and very happy with the quick shipping and great packaging. Thanks!" Melayna Anderson
"By far the best customer care I've had in a long time. Website is such a wealth of information and the email with instructions for use after my purchase was fantastic. The pipette for measuring the correct amount was such a great inclusion, and the personalised message on the package was very cool. Definitely my go to shop for plant supplies now. Thanks Love That Leaf! A+++" Karyn Wilson
