BREAKING NEWS: 12 new indoor plants approved for import into New Zealand
12 new indoor plants have been officially approved in NZ. 3 are brand new. 9 of the 12 were already in NZ but not 'officially' here. All 12 have now been officially approved by the EPA thanks to 2 years work by NZPPI.
Here are all 12...
Alocasia micholitziana
Anthurium clarinervium
Anthurium veitchii
Goeppertia bella
Goeppertia orbifolia
Macodes petola
Peperomia albovittata
Peperomia pecuniifolia
Peperomia quadrangularis
Peperomia rotundifolia
Pilea peperomioides
Plumeria pudica
What happens next?
If you’re wondering why Orbifolia and Bella look familiar, we know them here as Calathea Orbifolia and Calathea Musaica or Calathea Network. Peperomia pecuniifolia we also know as Peperomia Hope. This ruling clears up the Pilea peperomioides drama too.
That doesn’t mean we’ll suddenly see all of them flood the market, as just because they are approved doesn’t mean they automatically become eligible for import, but hopefully those who already have them in their private collections in NZ will feel comfortable selling now, and commercial growers with a secret stash waiting for the ruling, will now start releasing them for sale.
Great news! A big THANK YOU to NZPPI for all the hard work and time put into this ground-breaking decision.
