Grow Vertical Propstick - 120cms BIGGIE

$42.90 NZD

NEW from the maker of my favourite support poles comes what I call the BIGGIE (this is the same one Grow Vertical calls the Fatty Long). This really is one BIG pole at an impressive 1.2 metres (120cms) tall and 16cms wide. Perfect for your bigger plants, faster growers and taller climbers. Easy to assemble. Extra stable and strong. Customise with almost any substrate. Plus they're reusable over-and-over and won't rot or break like wooden poles can. So much easier to water and keep moist compared to round, open poles too. 1.2 metres not enough? They're also extendable

 What size is the Biggie?

He's a big boy! 1.2 metres tall x 16cms wide assembled. Ideal for your big plants, and plants you want to be big! For all your taller climbers with bigger leaves and thicker stems needing extra support. For shingling plants. And when you don't want to constantly be extending poles, giving plants plenty of room to grow tall and big.

Best matched with pots 20cms or bigger. although you can fit them in smaller pots (I've seen them in down to 16cm but would recommend you cable-tie them to the pot for extra stability). You can attach the pole to the pot itself, or bury it down into the pot for extra stability, or hang or attach the top of the pole.

Putting the nursery pot and pole in a nice heavy ceramic or concrete cover pot is a clever way to keep everything stable. Remember you don't need to put substrate all the way to the top of the pole right away, just as high as your plant needs, and you can top it up over time.

This biggest size is only available in the best-selling colour, black.

How do Grow Vertical compare to other poles?

Much easier to keep moist compared to those round, open moss poles on sticks. No wood to rot or break (I lost the top half of a rather expensive plant recently which came to me on a wood pole which rotted and snapped - that was a sad day). Keep your Grow Vertical moist with a spray mister if you want, or just make a few holes in the cap of a soft-drink bottle and stick it upside-down in the top of your pole to slowly drip-water with no spills.

The curved shape acts like a funnel, so you can also simply tilt and pour water straight down the back of the pole if you prefer. Excess water drains down and out through the pot's drainage holes like normal. No spills. No wet walls or shelves from misting. Faster and less wasteful than misting, plus you can more thoroughly wet the pole substrate to the core for less frequent watering too. These don't degrade or bend over time like moss and fern fibre poles, and are more secure and stable when you need to move plants.

Which plants benefits from support poles?

Many indoor plants are epiphytes that just want to climb! In their natural habitat they grab on and climb up trees. Give them something to get their aerial roots into and you'll be rewarded with bigger leaves and faster growth. I also find mine who I've given poles become less leggy and more full and leafy. Giving climbing plants the opportunity to climb helps them reach their maximum genetic potential.

That includes Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, Epipremnum, Syngonium and more.

What comes in a Grow Vertical pack?

Each pack comes with the back panel, front mesh, and cable ties included. Easy to assemble. No tools needed. Just add substrate. Sphagnum Moss is the most popular, but I'm loving Fern Fibre substrate too. You can use any substrate that won't escape from the mesh.

How do you assemble a Grow Vertical?

CABLE TIES: Attach the mesh to the back using the cable ties (included), through the pre-drilled holes along the sides of the back panel. No tools needed.

SUBSTRATE: Put the substrate in first, or as you go, or assemble first, then push the substrate in from the bottom or top, to the height needed. Add more substrate later as the plant climbs. TIP: With these much longer poles, you'll likely find it easiest to put the substrate in as you assemble

PICK THE TOP: The mesh is shorter than the back panel. Line the mesh up with one end of the panel. That will be the top. The bottom will be hidden in the pot. For extra stability, put the pole right down to the bottom of the nursery pot, or attach it to the pot itself.

PLACEMENT: Place your pole anywhere you want within the pot. I prefer to locate it at the 'back' with the plant in the middle, creating a 'front' to display your plant. Secure your plant with plant velcro or plant pins until aerial roots have attached.

"Dam my Philos were swinging off their bamboo sticks screaming “ HELLO, WE NEED SOME GROW VERTICAL 😂 8 months later here we are and they are looking better then ever, never again will I procrastinate grow poles 💀💀" @goldyplantdad

"I ordered a pack of the Propstick Mini and was so impressed with the quality that I ordered a set of the Propstick Pro with my next pay." Dale G.

"My Monstera Dubia is loving it’s new home on a Grow Vertical moss pole. Since it’s a climber and loves humidity I wanted to give it something to climb. The thought of creating moss poles was always on my mind but these grow vertical poles are so easy to install and to set up." @wheneyesee

"Thank you Grow Vertical! I was gifted a couple of Propstick Pros a little while ago and loved them and decided to go big this time with the Fatty Long. I’m so excited to see my Monstera Albo grow big and strong. It’s only been on the propstick for a week and already it’s roots are reaching into the medium in the pole. Fiddly to put together but totally worth it!" Saara

This is for the pole only, substrate not included. Spagmoss and Fern Fibre are the most popular options. Compare those are more substrates here

Great for larger climbers

I have a variety of moss poles but have bought and used the 120cm grow vertical propsticks for larger climbers. MY first comment though you need to have room for these 120cm is a lot of a moss pole, you will be rewarded by the effort though. They are great if you really want to get the max out of plants that will produce large leaves if allowed to climb. I have used them for a syngonium noak (which has been a prolific climber and anything shorter I would quickly have run out of pole) and a syngonium macrophyllum. Leaves on a macrophyllum can get up to 40-45cm which is apparently impossible when grown indoors. My plant is a third of the way up the pole and the largest leaf is 24cm with more unfurling that look larger still. I know its not because its this moss pole that the plant is doing well but anything smaller would look unbalanced and would not support the plant.
