Grosafe Groventive - Systemic Insecticide for Aphids, Mealybugs, Mites, Scale & Thrips - 200ml

$33.90 NZD

"Easily the most effective home garden product for mealy bug and scale."

Excerpt from Groventive review by

Groventive controls a long list of nasties that suck and chew our indoor and outdoor plants, including aphids, mealybugs, scale, mites, leafhoppers, thrips, whitefly, psyllids  and more. It gives me the creepy crawlies just writing that list, eww. This is the 200ml concentrate which makes 20 litres of spray treatment. Measuring cup included.

What is Groventive?

Groventive is a new generation systemic. It controls sucking and chewing insects on house plants, ornamentals, hedging and roses, while being low-toxicity making it safer for bees and beneficial insects. If you're on the hunt for the old Yates Confidor (no longer available to the hobbyist), Groventive is what you want instead.

How does Groventive work?

Groventive is a systemic insecticide which works differently to a contact insecticide. Systemic insecticides don't have to come in contact with the insect. Instead Groventive is absorbed through the leaf, into the sap of the plant. When an insect tries to suck the sap or chew a part of the plant, they get a dose of insecticide. That means you no longer have to completely saturate every nook and cranny like a mineral oil spray and other contact insecticides, plus you'll use less and need fewer treatments

Yes, if you're comparing it to a contact insecticide, Groventive does cost more, however with Groventive you normally require only one application, occasionally two, to control even difficult to eradicate pests like scale and mealybugs. Other options like mineral oil sprays need excellent coverage to come in contact with all insects, and multiple applications. Groventive is a systemic insecticide, not a contact insecticide, so won't kill pests instantly on contact or kill the adults. Best used in conjunction a contact insecticide.

What plants is Groventive for?

Potted plants (indoors and out), ornamentals (that's the category our houseplants are in), roses, flowers and hedging (note only for use on these plants listed).

What insects does Groventive treat?

Groventive treats aphids, mealybugs, scale, thrips, mites, leafhoppers, psyllids, spittlebugs and whiteflies.

How do you apply Groventive?

Use 10mls Groventive per 1 litre water

Groventive comes with measuring cup marked with 5ml, 10ml and 15ml increments to make measuring easy. Best used before pests get to high numbers, when they first appear or when you first notice pest damage.

Add all the Groventive and half the final water volume to a spray bottle. Mix well, then add the rest of the water. For best results also add Enspray 99 which improves coverage and stays on longer. Spray the plant thoroughly, concentrating on the foliage.

If indoors or potted outdoors, isolate the infested plant away from other plants for at least 28 days. A single application may be all that's required, however keep an eye on the plant and reapply at 14 day and 28 day intervals if needed. Groventive is a systemic insecticide, not a contact insecticide, so won't kill pests instantly on contact or kill the adults. Two applications recommended for best results even if no signs of pests continue. Apply early in the day or early evening, giving Groventive time to dry before beneficial insects are 'out and about'. Best applied when there is at least 3 hours before the next rainfall.

Safety first

Follow best practice when handling or applying this product. The same general safety precautions apply as for any spray treatment, including insecticides and fungicides, even those certified organic or generally safe.

Always check the label before use. Spray outdoors when possible, or in a well-ventilated area. Wear basic protective gear, including gloves and eye protection, when preparing and using the product. A coverall (like disposable Painter’s overalls) is recommended to protect clothing and reduce skin exposure. Avoid inhaling spray / mist. Avoid contact with eyes / skin. Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water after use. Read the full safety precautions here before use >

Worked brilliantly

I had mealybugs over one of my calatheas and the poor plant was ragged. One spray of Groventive fixed the problem, got rid of all the bugs and now the plant is thriving. I highly recommend this product.

Cassie H
Attack of the aphids

I noticed my syngonium confetti was SMOTHERED in aphids and immediately got onto some groventative treatment. All 40 odd plants have now been dosed with groventative and I can safely say I haven’t seen any other plants affected since. Confetti will need all 3 treatments, though the numbers are decreasing by the days.
