Made by Australian company Holland Forge, Cultiv8 seedling heat mats are made tough to last. These heavy-duty seedling heat mats are waterproof and more durable than standard heat mats. Double-insulated for a gentle, even heat source for plants, with reduced heat loss to reduce power consumption and improve germination success.

Cultiv8 heat mats come in 3 sizes, small, medium and large.

This size > MEDIUM

 Specifications

  • Mat measures 550mm x 280mm by 1.5mms thick,

  • Cord measures 6 foot long (1.8 metres / 183 cms),

  • NZ plug rated for use in NZ and AU,

  • Low wattage: 25 watts for energy efficiency,

  • Around 6 cents per hour to run (depending on what you pay for power),

  • Rated for use in 230 to 240 volt mains power (NZ standard is 230 volts).

  • Waterproof so safe to water plants without first removing them from the mat, but wipe mat dry afterwards (never submerge in water, safety first!).

 What you get

One corded heat mat plus 6 risers. The cord with NZ plug is hardwired, ready to simply plug and go. You also get 6 neoprene risers included, which you can pop on top of your heat mat, under your seedling tray or pots, to increase airflow and reduce heat between the tray and the mat if needed. Each riser is 1.5cms high. This mat is timer plug compatible (not included).

What temperature does it heat to?

Cultiv8 heat mats heat up to 10° Fahrenheit / 5° Celsius above the ambient air temperature, focusing the warmth on the roots where it matters most.

You can also change the environment to increase or decrease heat > To increase heat, add a humidity dome or cover over your seed trays, and/or place your mat on an insulated surface such as cardboard. To decrease heat, place on a cooler surface like concrete, and/or increase airflow. You can also use the neoprene riser blocks (included), to add a gap between the seedling tray and the mat to decrease heat and increase airflow.

TIP: Use along with a soil thermometer to monitor soil temperature.

 7 heat mat uses

  • For germinating warm-weather seeds,

  • For growing temperature-sensitive seedlings and baby plants,

  • For houseplants after repotting to give roots the extra warmth needed for a faster recovery, reducing transplant stress and reducing the risk of root rot,

  • To reduce the risk of fungi, mould, mildew, rot and moisture-loving soil pests like fungus gnats by helping the substrate dry out faster after watering,

  • For an over-watered plant: Put plant on a heat mat to dry out waterlogged soil faster, helping protect from root rot,

  • Use in winter for cold-sensitive, tropical houseplants to keep temperatures warmer overnight in winter and prevent dormancy,

  • For working with dough to increase warmth and humidity for better fermentation and proofing.
