Newest in the Inkbird range is the Inkbird Plus DOUBLE, including 2 heat mats (you can choose to use one or both in tandem), temperature controller and soil thermostat probe. Need more? You can daisy chain up to 6 compatible heat mats in total, and control them all from the master controller (extras available separately, called the Inkbird Sub-Mat).
The thermometer and controller monitor and display the current temperature and allow you to set the temperature for all attached heat mats. The ideal range for plant root growth is 20 to 30 degrees for seedlings, propagation and temperature-sensitive plants, but this mat can heat right up to 42 degrees if needed for tasks like fermenting, yogurt, baking and brewing including proofing sourdough. The range in Celsius is 0 to 42 or in Fahrenheit is 32 to 108. You can change the display between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Why get the Inkbird Plus DOUBLE heat mat?
- New model with upgraded heating film that reaches temperature faster, and maintains a more stable, gentle heat that's more evenly distributed throughout the mat surface.
- Waterproof: Rated IP67. Waterproof against spills and misting. Simply wipe dry.
- Increases success rate for cuttings and germination. Seeds and cuttings germinate and root faster and roots produced are stronger.
- Super thin and flexible. Can be rolled up or stored flat. Each mat measures 52cms long x 25 cms (2 mats included).
- 30 watts for reaching higher temperatures faster.
- Comes with NZ plug.
-
Extra long cord (see photos for full measurements).
- This new model also has improved cord insulation for use indoors and out, including in higher humidity environments such as greenhouses.
What can heat pads be used for?
Don't let winter stop you. Keep propagating, growing and repotting all year-round. Warmth speeds up root growth and grows stronger roots while keeping tropical that are not cold-tolerant warm over winter. Combine your new Inkbird PLUS heat mat with a grow light for even better results. Put your heat mat under a prop tank, grow house or cabinet, or just pop seedling trays or pots directly on top (yes, Inkbird PLUS heat mats are waterproof too, rated IP67).
Warmth speeds up root growth and recovery after repotting. But heat mats are not just for the babies. Also a great way to keep tropical-loving indoor plants warm over winter and to look after your high-maintenance jungle members. I use mine for my Ikea cabinet (last winter I had a heat mat on 24/7 under my prop tank terrarium). A warmer root temperature also helps stressed or struggling plants recover.
Heat mats also help over-watered plants dry out faster, reducing the risk of root rot in winter. Great for an emergency fix for accidental over-watering all year-round. Heat mats also mean you can repot all year-round. Maintaining a root temperature of over 20 degrees helps roots recover and start growing again following repotting or after removing damaged roots after root rot.
You can also start and grow bulbs, seeds and seedlings all year-round indoors. Most seeds won't germinate unless temperatures are between 20 to 30 degrees. With a heat mat and decent light you can grow herbs like oregano, parsley, sage, thyme, chives and more indoors, even in winter.
How does the Dual temperature controller work?
The manual (included) gives you more detailed instructions:
- Plug in and turn on at the wall first. The controller screen will then light up for 3 seconds as it powers up. Once the screen dims, press the power button on the controller to turn on the controller.
- Press the + button to enter the target temperature. 3 seconds after the last press, your setting will be saved automatically, and the mat will return to the working state. The screen will display the detected temperature (according to where you've put the soil thermometer).
- Put the thermostat probe into the soil or other area to detect the temperature.
- Use the + or - buttons at any time to adjust the set temperature.
How do I add more mats?
The manual (included) gives you more details:
- Remove the waterproof cap from the connector. Insert the male connector of the sub mat to the female connector of the main heating mat (the mat that has the controller).
- Twist the connector clockwise to secure the connection.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 to connect more heating mats. The controller can control up to 6 seedling heat mats (the main mat with controller + 5 sub-mats).
If you're only using one mat, or using two but not attaching more, it's important to keep the waterproof cap on the female connector ON when not in use.
What size is it?
Each Inkbird PLUS heat mat measures 52cms long by 25cms wide (2 are included with this kit), and is about 2mms thick. A standard size for a seedling heat mat, but thinner than most.
What's in the box?
- 2 heat pads (one master heat pad with controller, one sub-mat)
- Inline controller
- Thermostat probe
- NZ plug
