Which humidifiers fit the standard size?
The H2O Mini, H2O 500, H2O 750 and H2O UP plus Milkbox Mini Humidifiers all fit the standard wicks (trim shorter for the shorter models). These models also fit the Long in case the Standard is ever sold out.
This is for ONE filter wick refill, which will last on average 3 months* Each wick measures 15cms long x 8mm wide.
It's important when changing wicks in any humidifier, not to lose the small spring at the end of the wick cover. Without it your humidifier won't run properly. Always keep your old core to match the length to trim your new core.
Note the 1.1 litre H2O Smart Humidifier, uses the large not the standard or long size. All models come with 1 or 2 wicks already included.
*How long does a humidifer filter core wick last?
It varies depending on use, but a core tends to last 1 to 6 months, on average it's recommended you check and replace your core every 3 months (4 times a year). Running in a dusty or smoky environment will mean your core needs replacing more often. Harder water with higher mineral content can also shorten how often you need to change the wick as it helps prevent hard minerals blocking the mist outlets.
To extend the life of each core: keep surrounding surfaces wiped clean of dust, and floor area vacuumed / swept clean. You can also soak the filter in vinegar (just the filter, not the whole humidifier, always take the core out to soak it), about once a month to dissolve water deposits. If you notice any mould or discolouration from dust / minerals etc, it's time to change the filter. Continuing to use a dirty or blocked filter can end up with dirt, dust or minerals making their way in to the filter itself and damaging your humidifier beyond repair. Look for yellowing or browning from the core and ends of the wick.
