Introducing the newest addition to the impressive Forsana line-up: Foliage Magic
This clever foliage spray is good news for plant health and bad news for bugs!
Combining the power of oxygen water (hydrogen peroxide + distilled water), plus a bug-banning trio of neem oil, thyme and lavender, all natural repellents for common plant pests. Thyme also provides the added benefits of natural antifungal and antibacterial action.
All in a no-prep, ready-to-use formula with the fine spray mister included. This larger 500ml size is such a great price too, so you can regularly spray your entire indoor plant collection to help protect your plants without blowing the budget.
Bonus? It smells lovely!
Neem is a natural source of organic sulphur and has an eggy smell to go with it, although it does go away pretty quickly after use. But unlike most neem products, the addition of thyme and lavender in Foliage Magic makes it smell fresh and beautiful. A light lavender scent but not as floral as pure lavender, a bit fresher and with a slight woody scent in the mix from the thyme.
What does the extra oxygen do for plants?
Also known as 'oxygen water'. Foliage Magic includes a premixed blend of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water.
🪴 Extra oxygen helps boost plant growth and health,
🪰 Helps keep common pests like fungus gnats under control,
🧪 Chlorine-free. Cleans and sterilises with the action of oxygen.
🦠 Helps protect against bacteria, viruses, mould and fungi,
🌳 Completely safe for the environment,
🐱 People-safe, pet-safe, plant-safe.
🤧 Allergy and asthma friendly.
How does neem help plants?
Neem oil (from the Neem tree, Azadirachta indica), is found in a lot of plant products for good reason. It can be used at different dilution rates from a leaf shine to pest repellent right up to a pesticide.
Depending on the strength and how much of the active ingredient is in the mix, it can be diluted for frequent use as a foliage spray for its natural repellent properties, reducing the risk of bad bugs setting up home in your houseplants. Or you can get neem full-strength as a pesticide (like BioNeem), if you already have an outbreak of pests.
Forsana Foliage Magic is at the protective level. Best used frequently both for a health boost for plants and to help repel pests, but if you have an active pest outbreak right now, treat with a pesticide strength neem first (like BioNeem).
Why add thyme and lavender?
Thyme and lavender may smell nice to us, but not to pests. The scent of both plants is a natural deterrent to common plant pests. Thyme also has natural antifungal and antibacterial properties.
BONUS: Neem oil is a natural source of organic sulphur, beneficial to plants for photosynthesis, but not as nice for our noses! So thyme and lavender also give the added benefit of smelling better than natural neem products used alone :) Foliage Magic smells lovely! Not as floral as pure lavender, more of a slightly earthy, woody lavender scent thanks to the thyme.
Which plants is it for?
All your ornamental plants, including houseplants. That means plants grown for their aesthetics (not plants grown to eat or drink).
How do I use Foliage Magic?
No prep required, just shake and spray! The fine spray mister you see in the photos is included too. Everything's already mixed for you, ready to use.
Frequency depends on what benefit you're using it for, but from weekly to monthly is a good range.
For best results, spray and let it dry naturally on leaves, or for sensitive plants, you can spray and use a gentle cloth dampened with water, or a damp dusting glove to wipe it off a hour or so later.
Best sprayed early morning so the spray dries before the strongest light of the day (as with all neem products, leaves should be kept out of direct sun until dry).
Is it safe for all plants?
Foliage Magic is safe for use on ornamental plants (that includes houseplants), BUT the individual plant matters too...
Plants under stress are always more sensitive, so you still need to take the plant's health into account before you spray as stress can make a plant that is normally not sensitive, extra-sensitive to sprays.
Common causes of plant stress can be under- or over-watering, root rot, an active pest infestation, heat or cold shock. Best to treat the cause first.
In general, plants with thicker foliage or smooth foliage are less sensitive to sprays than plants with thin or velvety foliage. For example, the smooth-leafed Philodendron Heartleaf vs velvety Philodendron Micans.
Some plants are more sensitive to sprays than others, including thinner-leafed plants like Peace Lilies and Maranta, fuzzy or furry-leafed plants such as African Violets. A few plants are known to be more sensitive to oils in sprays, including orchids and ferns (so for those I'd avoid any spray unless necessary).
If in doubt, test-spray first on one or two leaves and wait 3 days to check for any reactions before you spray the entire plant.
PS: This isn't anything unique to Foliage Magic, it's general advice worth following for ANY SPRAY used on your plants :)
