H2O 750 Humidifier directions and set-up

Congrats on your new H2O Humidifier. It comes complete with everything you need to plug and go, runs both corded or cordless, ready to put an end to those brown, dry edges, crispy leaves, dry tips, and sort out curling and wilting leaves for all your humidity-loving indoor plants. Spoil your house plants. Give them not just what they need, but what they love.

Here's how to get set up, the different modes and settings, tips and more...

H2O Smart Humidifier 750ml

What does it come with?

Included in the box is the top and base unit, USB charging cord, and already installed is the cotton core filter, and low-water sensor. Getting set-up is super easy. Here's how...

How do I get set up?

1. Unbox your H2O Smart Humidifier.

2. Unscrew the top from the base and take out the USB charging cord from inside. The filter wick should already be installed inside the wick cover inside, ready to go.

3. Screw the top back on to the base. Plug it in and charge for at least 2 hours minimum (ideally for the full 3.5 hours charge time).

4. Once charged, the red light above the USB port will change from flashing to solid red. Unplug the cord from the top. Un-screw the top from the base. Fill the base with water to the 'fill here' line. Screw the top back on the base. Wait at least 10 minutes for the unit to prime (water needs to thoroughly soak the wick). If  yours has a protective sticker over the top of the mist output, remove this before first use.
Then off you go! Have a play with the different settings...

What do the buttons do?

The mist selector is on the left, shown below, and the light selector is on the right. You'll find the selector buttons, and USB port, on the back at the top of your humidifier. Note that mist run-times depend on corded or cordless as well as the level of charge and water in the reservoir (run-times below are for corded, cordless is less).

How do I change mist modes?

The button on the left of the USB plug is the mist selector. The first press is Continuous Mode. One fill will give up to 18 hours continuous mist when plugged in, or up to 5 hours when running cordless.

The second press is Intermittent Mode. It will put out a 3 second burst of cool mist, then off for 2 seconds, on repeat. One fill will give up to 28 hours intermittent mist in this mode when plugged, or up to 7 hours when running cordless.

How do I change between light modes?

The button to the right of the USB plug is the light selector.

The first press puts you in the Colour Cycle mode. Ambient light appears through the holes you see in the top, gently cycling through everything from deep sapphire blue to forest green, bright turquoise to white, yellow to pink and everything in-between. It's very peaceful, almost hypnotic, watching the colours blend and change. The mist looks so neat lit up with the different colours at night too.

Then the moment you see a colour you really love, the second press selects that single colour to stay on, turning cycle mode off.

If you prefer to run it without the lights on, the third press turns the lights off and you can just run your choice of mist mode only.

Cleaning

These units are super easy to clean. Being opaque inside, algae can't grow like see-through humidifier chambers. Plus with its smooth, round sides, you eliminate all those nooks and crannies so many humidifiers have, making wiping it down and keeping it clean a breeze.

Water and a cloth should be enough to keep it clean, but you can also use a dash of white vinegar mixed with water if needed. When cleaning, avoid water getting on or in the top where the electronics, USB plug and settings buttons are or it may break your unit and cause it not to function any longer.

Read about the care and maintenance of humidifiers here > (as a regular clean prevents a lot of common humidifier problems).

How often do I change the wick?

The wick (included) should be replaced every 3 to 6 months (more often in dusty, smoky or hard water conditions). Give the wick cover a gentle half-twist and it will unlock, then pull out the wick and replace it, taking care not to lose the spring in the bottom of the wick cover. The wick will discolour over time. When the core starts to turn brown or yellow, it's a good time to replace as the wick helps prevent contaminants ending up inside the atomiser or from blocking the mist outlets. Soak the new wick for at least 10 minutes or until fully saturated with water. This 750 model fits a standard humidifier wick and the long wick

Low-water auto switch-off

Inside the unit you'll see a white probe with 2 metal ends. That's the low-water sensor. When the water level drops so low the metal sensors are exposed to air, the unit will turn itself off so it doesn't run dry. Clever little thing huh?

Low-power alert

When running cordless and the charge runs out, the LED light will flash red 3 times to remind you to recharge.

How long does it take to charge?

The first charge should be a continuous 2 hours minimum, as mentioned in the set-up directions above. A full charge is 3.5 hours to get the maximum cordless run-time. Run-times are approximate as they depend on a number of factors (such as charge left, amount of water in the reservoir, relative humidity in the air, and air temperature).

You can rapid charge anytime, as the rechargeable batteries are lithium-ion so they don't retain a memory, however to extend the life of rechargeable batteries, it's still recommended to fully discharge and fully charge each time.

If you put your humidifier in to storage, rechargeable batteries should be fully charged and discharged about once a season / 4 times a year (every 3 months) to extend their lifetime.

Why am I only getting wee wisps of mist?

If you've charged your humidifier, let the filter soak for 10 minutes, but all you're getting it wee wisps of mist or not much of anything, your choice of power brick could be under-powered. With such long run-times and big capacity batteries, these little guys love higher-voltage chargers so try a different adaptor. Also try flipping the wick over in case it hasn't fully primed.

Warning: Don't do this

Add water in to the base only, directly in to the water reservoir inside. Keep the top dry. Never submerge the entire humidifier in water. Don't pour water over the humidifier or pour water in via the mist outlets. Avoid the top getting wet as that's where the electronics are. When refilling, unplug the unit first. Dry hands before touching the plug, adaptor or cord.

Take care to put the USB plug in correctly, and never force it. Mini USB's are small, so you can damage them or the plug if you're not careful. Force is never required. The plug will easily slot in if you have it in the correct position.

If you notice water droplets forming on or around the humidifier when it's running, or water pooling in the mist outlets, you've reached the humidity capacity the air can hold and should turn your humidifier off or the mist level down. Water droplets or water that pools then dries on the unit or in the mist outlets will cause limescale and block the outlets over time.

This is a water-only humidifier. Don't run the unit with perfume, essential oil, or anything other than water in the reservoir. It will cause residue to build up over time in areas you can't clean, eventually blocking the filter, and potentially breaking or damaging the unit. These are made to use with tap water but limescale from hard water will block the mist outlets over time. Spring water is often high in the minerals that can cause limescale also so is best avoided.

This is not a toy. Use by children should be closely supervised by an adult. It is intended for home, domestic, indoor use, not for commercial or business use. The warranty only covers personal use.

Use or treatment of the unit other than directed may damage or break it, and will void the warranty. Wear and tear, misuse or user error is not covered by the warranty. The 6 month warranty covers manufacturing faults or defects only. If anything should go wrong, contact the retailer first. When purchased in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act applies.
